Best ways to steep e-liquids

Our top 4 methods on how to steep E-liquid

Steeping e-liquid is a common practice among many papers to improve the taste of there e-liquid and to ensure they get the best flavour from there vape possible. There are four best methods we would like to share with you of how to steep e-juice; some are slow but more effective while others can have a much faster process. In this guide, we will discuss the most popular ones we would recomend.

What is steeping e-liquid?

Steeping has a long tradition with teas, beer and even food products, this helps to either extract all the nutrition or as in our case release the best flavour possible. The process of of steeping vape juice comes down to one main factor to age the e-juice.

By doing this it will remove any harsh tasting chemicals such as alcohol, which are volatile. Steeping mixes and binds the base mixes vg/pg together along with flavourings and nicotine, this the oxidises the juice to remove the alcohol. whilst the oxidation is taking place, the colour of your e-liquid may change colour.

So why steep vape juice?

When steeping, this brings out the best flavour possible and this is a tried and tested fact! This will increase the the flavour and by far will improve the overall vaping experience, but when you vape juice fresh from a mix this is known as "shake and vape" some vapers like to do this but we advise you to follow the true steeping steps. once you have learned, tried, tested and followed the methods we suggest, you will be enjoying a much better flavour and vaping experience in no time!.

Steeping is all about the age and taste quality of your juice. If you are making homemade juice then we would defiantly advise you to steep your e-juice as you may find yourself ending up with a chemical taste. if you didn't want to hang around for the steeping process and purchased a bottle from commercial/professional manufacture of a brand then think of the journey this bottle has already had before it ended up at your door.

So what is the journey? the steeping started soon as the mixing of the e-liquid recipe took place and has been steeping everyday ever since, it sat in the warehouse waiting for a customer to make an order, it was being shook all over the place by the courier on its way to your house and then it maybe sitting on your shelf until you are ready to use it. if the juice still tastes harsh and chemically then we would advise to leave it steeping for a while longer.

So is it worth steeping my e-juice?

In short the answer is defiantly yes! all over the world right now people are exploring tastes and creativity. This has led to a much higher demand for refined items that includes vape juices.

By experimenting with the steeping process you can enjoy the many ways to enhance your overall vaping experience.

How do I steep e-juice?

Generally speaking, steeping involves a heating process, shaking process and the overall goal of air oxidation.

The most common steeping methods of all is to store your liquid in a cool dark room. A small cupboard will do fine, whilst shaking your bottle help the oxidisation process.

Oxidisation is a good thing to happen to our juice in the steeping process. When other chemicals are reduced and our flavour enhances this can change a weak flavoured juice into a liquid bursting with flavour when done the right way.

We have put together below the best 4 methods of steeping we would recommend for you to give a try.

Method N01

Slow and steady wins the race!

If you are not in a hurry to start vaping your first homemade batch, then this method is the best way to steep your juice.

1-  place the filled bottles in a cool dark cupboard or box

2- make sure to keep all light away from hitting your bottle as this can effect your vape juice.

3- every 1-2 days release the cap and give your bottle a light squeeze, replacing the old air with new will help speed up the oxidation process,

4- once you have reached your 1 week goal, this is a great time to check your juice strength. You can do this by add a small amount to your vape.

5- if the flavour is still not strong enough for your taste then repeat the above steps weekly.

Nicotine

Understanding nicotine levels

Nicotine Levels explained

E-liquid can be used with and without nicotine which is most commonly displayed as the following.  Mg, ml or as a percentage of the total e-juice, e-liquid or vape juice.

This can come in many strengths ranging from 3mg upto 18mg but this will depend on the manufacture. They can also range higher normally between 24mg unto 50mg but this will be manufactured using nic salts.

At Vape Hedz we have a range of e-liquids and juice to try. All of our short fills are 0mg and you can add our 18mg Nic shots to achieve the required strength.

We also sell e-juice in 10ml bottles with a strength ranging from 0mg 3mg 6mg 12mg and 18mg.

If you require to buy some 18mg shots please follow the link supplied click here

When purchasing vape juice without nicotine this will be displayed as 0mg, it is also important to read carefully and fully understand what level is right for you.

If you are experienced with Tobacco products, it helps to understand how that product currently affects your body and what dosage you are getting from it before trying vaping. Nicotine can be absorbed through the skin (like a transdermal nicotine patch), in the mouth (such as with chewing tobacco or nicotine gum), or through the lungs by inhalation. Inhalation, as with vaping or smoking, provides the fastest effect on your body.

Traditional Cigarettes

There is no standard amount provided in traditional cigarettes. Not only do cigarettes come in various sizes, and are made with various tobacco, but many cigarette companies add nicotine and other chemicals to cigarettes. On average the nicotine content of cigarettes can range up to 14mg.

eCigarettes / Vaping

With vaping, the amount of nicotine in your product is more clear. The strength of eLiquid should be displayed on the bottle in mg or percentage. Theoretically, it is possible to determine how much eLiquid you are vaping. However, differences in devices and in the rate at which you vape lead to big differences in how the nicotine is transferred to your body. If you are a using an advanced atomizer, 3mg may give you the same effect you’d get from 6mg or 12mg eLiquid vaped from a cartomizer.

Different nicotine strength displays

You may see eLiquid strengths written as mg, mg/mL, or in percentage form. Here is how they are displayed in each

E-Liquid 0mg = 0mg/mL = 0%
E-Liquid 3mg = 3mg/mL = 0.3%
E-Liquid 6mg = 6mg/mL = 0.6%
E-Liquid 12mg = 12mg/mL = 1.2%
E-Liquid 24mg = 24mg/mL = 2.4%
Nic Solution 48mg = 48mg/mL = 4.8%
Nic Solution 100mg = 100mg/mL = 10%
Pure Nic 1000mg = 1000mg/mL = 100%

If you do not use Tobacco products but enjoy vaping it is very important to understand that nicotine is a highly addictive substance, which in hand will have high chemical effects on your body.

You can explore vaping more ways than just consuming nicotine. you can reap benefits such as being part of a vaping community or maybe satisfying an oral fluxation.

If you don’t currently use nicotine, you should not vape eLiquid that contains nicotine. If you are quitting nicotine products, or have never used them, 0mg strength is probably for you. More often than not, those trying to quit their nicotine habit by vaping will decrease the nicotine level over time, eventually getting down to 0mg. eLiquid at 0mg truly contains no nicotine. Unlike tobacco, eLiquid does not come with nicotine in its default form. In eLiquid, nicotine is an added ingredient. If you currently use nicotine in some other form, you may find a lower strength eLiquid insufficient to stem cravings for your habit.

Calculator

How to use our E-liquid calculator?

How to use our E-liquid calculator?

How to use our e-liquid calculator? everyone these days seems to be moving towards making there own DIY E-liquid at home. It's cheaper, fun to try and also can save you a lot of money when mixing at home. The only real struggle when making your own e-liquid is how to measure the amount of flavour I need to add to each E-liquid recipe, but don't worry guys Vape Hedz has got your back with our very own easy to use E-liquid calculator.

Using the E-liquid calculator to remove the thinking...

Our E-liquid calculator will remove all of the stress and thinking about how to make my own vape juice.

Step 1

open a new tab using this link to our e-liquid calculator and follow further steps below click here

Step 2

Now comes the fun part, All you must do now is input everything. So, to start off with move the slider to your desired ratio. For me, it will be 50% VG and 50% PG.

1st step of how to set the pg/vg ratio

Step 3

Now, how much do you want to make? I'm going to make 60ml as this is great for me.

Once you have entered the amount of e-liquid you want to make it is time to decide on whether you want to add an extra diluent. What it this I hear you say? some people like to add diluents such as alcohol or water to thin their mix but I'm not wanting the so I will leave that part out.

Step 4

Here we have the nicotine section. At first glance this can look very daunting, but please do not worry as you are in good hands. What we need to do first is to select the 18mg button that's if you are using 18mg nicotine liquid, or if not set the strength of the liquid you are using.

Next we need to select which base our nicotine is diluted in. Is it VG or PG based? For me its VG, which is a bit thicker than the PG based nicotine.

Our last job on this part is to select what nicotine strength we would like. So how strong do you want your nicotine hit? for me I want 3mg so il choose this button, by the way this is the lowest you can buy from the shops with nicotine in.

Step 5

The next step is simple but fun! you will need to follow the recipe guidelines on the recommended percentage of flavour to add.

adding the flavours I want to make my e-liquid with onto the calculator

Step 6

Now lets take a look at our recipe. Its very simple to follow, the calculator has broken down each element to put into your e-liquid. All you must do now is make it by following the given amounts. The exact measurements can be found on the calculator page and will look like this...

finished recipe ready start making my juice

There are two options for measuring out the ingredients. You can either make it by measuring in ml, or by measuring it by weight in grams. For me, I will be doing it by weight as it saves me a lot of time and it's not as messy. If you wanted to create your liquid by weight you can click here and purchase a set of weighing scales.

So now you should have a mixing cup or the bottle you are going to be using. Just start with putting the PG amount in and work your way down the list. Once you have done all that your liquid is finished.

Congratulations! You have just successfully made your own D.I.Y e-liquid. Just remember to let it steep for a few days, shake regularly and leave in a cool dark place.

Now put your feet up and wait to vape your own e-liquid.

I hope all of this helps and if you are after more information or guidance, check out the rest of our blog and our videos. But if you still have questions that you need answers for, just send us over an email.
